Expo International, is this month’s sponsor for the DCC blog hop. We were sent beautiful trims, appliques and lace. I received beautiful Roses(appliques) and Scarlet lace and trim and went into total shock. I don’t work with those types of colors. I’m a happy don’t take serious type of person and these colors (to me) represent serious. Holy crap batman….
What, could I do? My mind was blank, stumped and suddenly a light bulb went off.
Thank goodness I have supply boxes which included the pocket holder. The pocket holder is made of canvas and has six sewn pockets and a bamboo dowel. ( lol, I was doing some spring cleaning a while back and saw these bamboo dowels and said what the heck and threw them in the trash. Opps!!! Had to make a mad dash to Home Depot DUH!!!).
My project and everything included is shown in the photo above, the only thing missing is PLAID Mod Podge Fabric on Fabric
This Mod Podge is perfect for fabric on fabric.
I purchased the scarlet red and black polka dot material (HL) to cover each pocket, I am not a sew’er (ugh!) I am a gluer. Have glue gun will travel. smile
I took a square 5 x 4 1/2 piece of material and glued down individually over each pocket. I am a HUGE polka dot fan.
I had three (3) yards of Scarlet Red Lace and I added it all around the pocket holder. (everywhere). I still have lace left over and would love to use it for something else.
I was given these two beautiful rose appliques and glued them across the pockets. I have recently seen these gorgeous roses applied on black high top tennis shoes. you can see more photos on Pinterest.
I received two semi braided trims from Expo International Black (used) and White. I used the black to outline the top of the pockets. The trim is very flexible to work with arched, flat, bent too, I took these trims to a fabric store and they couldn’t believe how beautiful they are, unfortunately, my photos do not show the true colors. In Photo 2 shown below the rose has a lavender streak in the middle. The other trim Expo International the white semi braided trim is a brilliant white. Both trims adhered to the canvas perfectly with the Mod Podge and I’m sure it would be perfect with a glue gun too! Very easy to cut and didn’t fray. (I’ll use the white for something else on another day (lol)
The black buttons were in my button drawer and thought they added a little pizzazz, I started to use four buttons but felt three justified the need
I took black spray paint and painted over the bamboo color dowel.
This was a super fun project and not expensive to create. Total cost under $5.00
